Questions
What is short selling data?
NSE publishes every day the shares that institutional investors sold short in the cash market, stock by stock. Institutions must disclose short sales upfront; retail traders cannot carry a short position overnight in the cash market.
Which stocks were shorted most?
On 16 Oct 2026, 68 stocks had short sales disclosed. The tables show the day’s list and the most shorted stocks over the last 20 sessions.
Why is today’s short selling data not shown?
NSE releases each session’s short-selling disclosures the next trading day. Trades from Monday appear on Tuesday evening, so the latest data here is always one session old.
Does short selling mean the stock will fall?
Not necessarily. Much of it is hedging or arbitrage against futures positions. Repeated, large short sales in the same stock are the part worth watching.
