What is a gap

A gap up is when today’s open is above yesterday’s close (here, by at least 1%); a gap down is the opposite. Results, news and global cues usually cause them.

Filled or unfilled

An unfilled gap up never traded back into yesterday’s range (today’s low stayed above yesterday’s high). Unfilled gaps show strong demand or supply.

Using gaps

Gaps on high volume with an unfilled close are the strongest. Many gaps get filled later, so the gap level is a reference, not a guarantee.

End-of-day daily candles for NSE F&O stocks and major indices, adjusted for splits and bonuses, scanned after the close each trading day (by about 4:15 PM IST). A scan result is a setup to study, not a signal to trade. Information, not investment advice.

Questions

Which stocks gapped up today?
This page lists NSE F&O stocks and indices that opened at least 1% above the previous close today, updated after every close, with the day’s change and volume.
What is an unfilled gap?
A gap where price never came back to the previous day’s range during the session: for a gap up, the day’s low stayed above the previous day’s high.
Do gaps always get filled?
No. Many gaps are filled later, but strong trends can leave gaps open for a long time.
