What is the CPR?

The Central Pivot Range is built from the previous day’s high, low and close: pivot P = (H + L + C) / 3, bottom BC = (H + L) / 2, top TC = 2P − BC. The levels shown are for the next trading day.

Why a narrow CPR matters

CPR width is the gap between TC and BC as a % of price. The scan lists widths up to 0.50%: extreme ≤ 0.05%, ultra narrow ≤ 0.15%, narrow ≤ 0.30%, moderate ≤ 0.50%. A very tight range after a balanced day is often watched for a breakout into a trending day.

Virgin CPR and trend

Trend compares today’s close with tomorrow’s CPR: a close above the top (TC) is bullish, below the bottom (BC) bearish, inside it neutral. A virgin CPR is a range that today’s high–low never touched. OI build-up is from the futures.

Calculated from daily prices after the close (scan at 3:15 PM, ready by about 3:30 PM IST). A narrow CPR is a setup to watch, not a signal to trade. Information, not investment advice.

Questions

What is a narrow CPR?
The Central Pivot Range (CPR) is built from the previous day's high, low and close. When its top (TC) and bottom (BC) are very close together, the CPR is narrow. This scanner lists F&O stocks and indices whose CPR for the next trading day is 0.50% of price or less.
When is the narrow CPR scan updated?
Every trading day. The scan runs at 3:15 PM IST and the results are ready by about 3:30 PM, with the CPR, pivot, R1 and S1 levels for the next trading day.
What do extreme, ultra narrow and narrow mean?
They are CPR widths as a % of price: extreme up to 0.05%, ultra narrow up to 0.15%, narrow up to 0.30% and moderate up to 0.50%.
What is a virgin CPR?
A virgin CPR is a central pivot range that the day's high-low range never touched. Traders often watch it as a level on later days.
Is a narrow CPR a buy or sell signal?
No. A narrow CPR shows a tight, balanced range that is often watched for a breakout. It does not tell the direction or guarantee a move. Use it with your own analysis and risk management.
