Questions
What does the strategy tester do?
It replays a simple rule on two years of a stock’s daily prices: when the entry condition happens, it buys at the next day’s open; it sells when the exit condition happens, at the next day’s open, or at your stop or target price during the day. Every trade pays the cost you set.
Is a good backtest a good strategy?
Not necessarily. Two years is a short sample, one stock is one story, and rules tuned to the past often fail in the future. Use it to understand how an idea behaved, not as a promise.
Why does it compare with buy and hold?
Because a rule is only interesting if it did something buying once and holding could not: a better return, or a smaller worst fall.
Daily prices from NSE, adjusted for splits and bonuses, last two years. Results are hypothetical, before taxes, and the past does not predict the future. Information and education only, not investment advice; ChartMine is not a SEBI-registered adviser.
