Questions

What is ASM?
Additional Surveillance Measure: NSE puts stocks with unusual price moves or volatility under ASM, in stages. Stocks under ASM need higher margins (up to 100%) and, in later stages, trade only on a trade-for-trade basis. It is a caution flag, not an accusation.
What is GSM?
Graded Surveillance Measure, for stocks whose price is not supported by the company’s financials. Restrictions grow with each stage, up to trading only once a week.
Which stocks are in the ASM list today?
On 20 Oct 2026: 137 stocks under long-term ASM, 66 under short-term ASM and 77 under GSM.
Can I buy a stock under ASM?
Yes, but with higher margins and, in later stages, delivery-only trades. Check your broker’s rules; many restrict intraday trading in these stocks.
