How build-up is read

Price up with OI up is long build-up; price down with OI up is short build-up; price up with OI down is short covering; price down with OI down is long unwinding.

Why OI is summed

Open interest is added across all expiries, so traders rolling positions to the next month do not look like new or closed positions.

Using it

Fresh build-ups show where new money is committing; covering and unwinding show positions closing. Combine with price levels before acting.

From NSE’s end-of-day F&O files (bhavcopy and the MWPL file), published each evening after NSE posts them. Futures OI is summed across expiries so roll-overs do not look like new positions. Information, not investment advice.

Questions

Which stocks have long build-up today?
This page lists NSE F&O stocks where the futures price and open interest both rose today, plus the other three build-up types, updated every trading evening.
What is short covering?
Price rises while open interest falls: traders who were short are buying back to close their positions.
Is long build-up bullish?
It shows new long positions being added as price rises, which traders often read as bullish. It is not a guarantee; check the trend and levels too.
