FII vs DII

FIIs (foreign portfolio investors) and DIIs (domestic institutions such as mutual funds and insurers) report their cash-market buying and selling to NSE every day. Net = bought − sold.

Why it matters

Large, persistent FII selling or buying often lines up with market direction; DIIs have frequently taken the other side in recent years.

Index futures long %

From NSE’s participant-wise open interest: the share of FII index-futures positions that are long. Low readings mean FIIs are heavily short.

From NSE’s public end-of-day data, collected each trading evening. Values in ₹ crore unless shown. A large trade or filing shows what happened, not why; it can be a hedge, a transfer or a portfolio change. Information, not investment advice.

Questions

What is FII DII data today?
It is the net amount foreign and domestic institutional investors bought or sold in Indian cash markets today, published by NSE in the evening. This page shows today’s numbers and the history.
Where does this data come from?
From NSE’s daily FII/DII trading activity release and its participant-wise open interest file, collected every trading evening.
What does FII long % in index futures mean?
It is FIIs’ long index-futures contracts divided by their total (long + short) index-futures contracts. Below 50% means they hold more shorts than longs.
